The Organization for the Research Study of African American Life and Background (ASALH) will convene its yearly conference in Atlanta from September 24 – 28, 2025, bringing together Black leaders, academics, instructors, and neighborhood participants during what coordinators refer to as a “crucial hour” for Black history and education and learning.

The seminar will feature several prominent voices in African American researches and social justice, including Pulitzer Prize-winning chronicler Dr. Edda Fields-Black and scholar-activist Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. Labor organizer Chris Smalls, who led the effective effort to create the first independent union at an Amazon storage facility in the United States with the Amazon Labor Union, will heading the Friday John Blassingame Luncheon.
Various other included audio speakers consist of historians Drs. Peniel Joseph, Maurice Hobson, Stephanie Evans, and Joe Trotter Jr., along with civil liberties leaders Ambassador Andrew and Andrea Young and Rev. Jamal Bryant.
An essential component of the conference programs will certainly address existing obstacles dealing with teachers and establishments seeking to instruct Black background. Specialized sessions will certainly supply advice to librarians, educators, and neighborhood coordinators on developing Flexibility Schools and mentor Black background “in the current challenged nationwide environment.”

“Our goal is to make as much of the tasks complimentary and easily accessible to the public as possible,” coordinators introduced, with Wednesday sessions, plenaries, movie celebration testings, poster sessions, and supplier displays used at no charge.
Thursday’s plenary, “In the direction of a Concept of Freedom: The State of Black Radicalism Today,” will include scholars Drs. Charisse Burden-Stelly, Gerald Horne, Akinyele Umoja, Delight James, and Ashley Howard checking out modern Black freedom movements.
Friday’s session will honor the scholarship of historian Dr. Joe William Trotter Jr., a leading expert on African American labor history and city studies.
A Saturday luncheon entitled “An Unusual Focus on Scholarship: Carter G. Woodson, Omega Psi Phi, and the Power of Black History” will certainly discover the tradition of ASALH’s founder and the role of Black Greek letter organizations in protecting African American history.
